Dolphins are in the shamu close up??
      #139382 - 10/11/09 08:34 AM

I'm watching the shamu cam right now. The first thing I saw were dolphins and pilot whales. I was really surprised to see them. I wonder what's going on with the show tank. Anyone know?

They're in there because the stadium is being reconstructed for Blue Horizons.

oh wow.. an even better reason to get over there. When will the new show open up? Are they doing dolphin shows in the close up for now or the orca's show tank? I'm going to be heading down there sometime in the next few months if all goes well.

The new show won't open until May. Until then, the dolphins and pilots have been moved to RPP and Shamu Stadium while the stadium is being renovated for the new show.

The DIP dolphins have been permanently moved to RPP, DIP now takes place in the back pool of RPP. The girl show dolphins/ pilots have moved to the Shamu area. The boy show dolphins have been moved to AC.

Thanks so much for the info, Ruka! I'll remember that if/when I get around to going again.

SeaWorld San Diego on Facebook just posted a really interesting short video of the dolphins and pilot whales doing some training for Blue Horizons in the show pool (it's so weird to see them in there!). The behaviours already differ from the Orlando show.

I really don't think those are the behaviors for Blue Horizons. They seem to making sure the dolphins are doing their usual behaviors they used to for the show at Shamu, which will be interesting. Before the dolphin show ended I saw them working on behaviors for Blue Horizons I'm sure when the dolphins move back they'll resume training those new behaviors, cause waterwork has very much slowed down. Though I also wouldn't be surprised if they incorporate the old behaviors in BH.
